Are you interested in learning more about how the Scholastica Production Service works and what sets it apart from alternative options?

During our recent webinar, “Faster More Efficient Journal Publishing with Scholastica Production: Case Studies,” members of the Scholastica team walked through how we typeset beautiful PDF articles in journals’ desired styles along with HTML and metadata-rich XML article files more quickly, reliably, and affordably than traditional vendors.

The webinar also featured examples of how Scholastica is helping journals connect the dots between their peer review and publishing workflows more than ever before.

Webinar overview

In recent years, keeping up with expanding digital article production needs has proven challenging for many small and medium publishers. Multi-step article formatting and conversion processes to prepare stylized PDFs, HTML, and index-ready XML (whether internal or outsourced) have become increasingly expensive and inconsistent. Such print-based processes are highly manual and treat XML and HTML as an afterthought when they should be priority #1 for digital publishing. At the same time, new XML-first authoring and editing tools have proven frustrating for those who have to learn how to use them, and they still require XML validation in the end, which tends to fall on already overtasked journal teams.

What’s the way forward?

At Scholastica, we believe journal production should be easier in the digital age, so we built a solution. Since 2018, the Scholastica Production Service has enabled publishers across academic disciplines to get the professional article files they need fast — and without technical hassles! That’s because we use a software-based process augmented by machine learning to simultaneously generate PDF articles, customized to publishers’ preferred styles, along with full-text HTML and XML article files from a single source with no formatting, conversion, or validation steps for editors or authors.

This webinar, presented by Scholastica’s Technical Editorial Manager William Horne, Technical Editorial Associate Garrett Wright, and Head of Marketing and Community Development Danielle Padula, overviews how Scholastica’s production service is helping publishers of all sizes:

  • Cut submission formatting steps for authors and editors to save everyone time (including automating line/margin spacing, figure placement, and citation normalization)
  • Automate PDF article customization, including custom colors (for textual elements, borders, and backgrounds), font families and sizes, and page layouts
  • Seamlessly integrate editorial and publishing tools and processes to bridge workflow gaps
  • Improve the accuracy and quality of article figures, tables, and metadata
  • Speed up proofing with the support of our US-based team

The webinar features case studies of customers using the Scholastica Production Service with our peer review system and open access journal hosting platform, as well as customers integrating the Scholastica Production Service with external hosting providers.

Learn how we automated article deposits to the Silverchair Platform for the University of California Press, helped the American Academy of Optometry launch a new journal seamlessly integrating with their chosen editorial services provider, automated article deposits to PubMed Central for the Spartan Medical Research Journal, and more.
