Join Scholastica’s head of marketing and community development, Danielle Padula, and founder of the industry-leading Journalology newsletter and consultancy, James Butcher, for a water cooler chat about how the role of journal editors is transforming with technology on September 27th at 3 PM UTC in honor of Peer Review Week 2024. Another international Peer Review Week is upon us! The theme for PRW 2024, “Innovation and Technology in Peer Review,” offers an opportunity for publishers, editors, authors, reviewers (and the many other research stakeholders!) to ruminate on the rapidly expanding role of technology in peer review and engage in discourse about how to address related challenges and harness emerging opportunities.
At Scholastica, we’ve been thinking a lot about how the role of the journal editor is changing with technology. So, we decided to host a YouTube water cooler chat event about “the new journal editor” of the 21st century. Scholastica’s head of marketing and community development, Danielle Padula, sat down with the founder of the industry-leading Journalology newsletter and consultancy, James Butcher, to consider the questions:
Who is the “new journal editor” of today? And how can editors keep up with the rapid pace of change?
Many thanks to James for taking the time for this lively and thoughtful discussion!

About Peer Review Week 2024 and how to get involved
As noted, this water cooler chat event is part of Peer Review Week 2024, themed “Innovation and Technology in Peer Review,” which Scholastica is proud to have helped organize.
Since 2016, members of the scholarly community have been coming together during Peer Review Week (PRW), an annual virtual global event, to recognize how peer review contributes to the advancement of scholarship and share peer review resources for all stakeholders.
We encourage you to check out the PRW activities page to see everything planned for this year!
